Daniel Rucinski, PHDEnvironmental Engineer

Daniel Rucinski, PHD, is an Environmental Engineer at LimnoTech with 18 years of experience developing and applying water quality models. Dan has expertise in creating environmental models for evaluating eutrophication processes, hydrodynamics, sediment transport, and ecosystem responses in the river, lake, and estuarine systems. He is proficient in several computer-programming languages, including C#, Visual Basic, Java, Python, and FORTRAN, and is experienced in desktop and web application development. Dr. Rucinski also has expertise in developing and interacting with databases, including postGres and MSAccess. Dan’s work is critical in helping our clients make key decisions about watershed and lake management, habitat restoration initiatives, contaminated sediment remediation, and permit compliance.

Dan holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree in Environmental Engineering from Michigan Technological University. He earned his PHD from the University of Michigan, where his research and dissertation focused on modeling hypoxia in Lake Erie. Dan is proficient in eutrophication issues in the Great Lakes and has authored several peer-reviewed publications on Lake Erie hypoxia under varying nutrient loading and climate conditions. Dan has worked internationally as a visiting engineer at the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) of New Zealand, where he applied his expertise in environmental modeling to develop hydrodynamic models for a range of applications, including an evaluation of the thermal plume at a prominent power plant cooling-water discharge location, and an assessment of complex estuary hydraulics on the transport and fate of sediment and contaminants.

Dan works at LimnoTech’s Corporate Headquarters in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
